Canceling and refunds
How the free trial, canceling and refunds work for Pro. This policy is part of the terms of service.
The short version
- Cancel during the free trial and you are never charged.
- Paid charges are final. Canceling stops the next charge, and Pro stays until the end of the period you paid for.
- We always refund a charge made in error.
- Ontario consumer law can give you more. Nothing here limits it.
During the free trial
You pay nothing during the 7-day free trial. If you cancel before it ends, you are never charged. To cancel, open Plan in Settings and choose Manage billing.
Paid charges are final
The free trial is your chance to try Pro before you pay. Once a monthly or yearly charge is made, it is not refundable, apart from the cases below and any refund the law requires.
To stop the next charge, cancel before the renewal date that Settings shows. Pro stays until the end of the month or year you paid for. We do not refund the rest of that period.
When we always refund
- We charged you in error: twice, the wrong amount, or after you canceled. We refund the whole charge.
- We closed your account for a reason other than a breach of the terms, or we stopped running After Syntax. We refund the unused part of your paid period.
- You canceled a yearly plan because of a price or terms change you did not accept. We refund the part of the year you have not used.
If you delete your account
Deleting your account cancels Pro at once and stops all future charges. We do not refund the rest of the period, apart from the cases on this page. If you think one of them applies, write to us before you delete, or afterwards from the same email address.
How a refund reaches you
We aim to answer a refund request within 5 business days. Stripe returns the money to the card you paid with, and we confirm it by email. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show it on your statement.
Your rights under the law
This policy adds to your rights under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002. It does not take any of them away.
For example, if we did not give you the information the law requires before you started Pro, or did not send you a copy of the agreement, the law may let you cancel and get your money back. If we do not pay a refund the law says we owe you, you can ask your credit card issuer to reverse the charge.
